Technology is always changing, he says, and CISOs need to "take ownership" by evaluating and understanding the business risks so they can "align new risks with new technology."

"If you are spending money judiciously and if you have the right controls based on the risk and you're plugged into the business strategy, you're protecting the business," he says.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group as of the CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, Dhawan also discusses:

  • The importance of collaboration in achieving security goals;
  • How to get business buy-in for technological deployments;
  • Using a collaborative approach to change the mindset about security.

Dhawan has over 20 years of experience in the IT, information security and privacy domains. He is accountable for Birlasoft's cybersecurity and privacy journeys and ensures continuous delivery to all customers. Before Birlasoft, he served in leadership roles at JP Morgan and American Express, driving technology controls and leading infosec practices. Dhawan retired from the Indian Navy as a commander in 2014.
