The privacy vendor market in India is evolving rapidly. Many vendors are moving past offering point solutions to deliver platform solutions that offer better integration and the ability to handle a broader range of privacy requirements, said Anirban Sengupta, a partner in the risk consulting practice at PwC.

"Some vendors are moving from point solutions, like concept management or data discovery or data subject rights management, to more comprehensive platforms" that integrate multiple privacy technology or service capabilities, Sengupta said.

Another big shift is happening on the regulatory front. "I am expecting the regulators to start prioritizing public education and awareness campaigns in a big way," he said. "I am also expecting the regulators and other industry bodies to come up with various templates which can be sector-specific, that can be leveraged by organizations and which can make implementation much easier."

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Sengupta also discussed:

  • Indian organizations' varying levels of privacy awareness;
  • How the privacy vendor market is evolving;
  • The need for privacy professionals amidst a skills crunch.

Sengupta is a partner at PwC, where he leads the business and technology risk consulting practice and also anchors the data privacy practice for PwC India. He has experience supporting multiple clients in India and across the globe with their data privacy and protection strategies, data privacy framework and tool implementations, and data security posture reviews for managed services.
