Network Access Control and BYOD

Scott Gordon of ForeScout
Combining a network access control system with a mobile device management system is a good way to address security for BYOD, says Scott Gordon of ForeScout.

Network access control can be used to specifically limit what data can be accessed with a personal mobile device, Gordon explains. For example, the controls could prevent an employee from using the camera on a tablet while connected to a corporate network.

In an interview, he:

  • Discusses mobile security strategies in healthcare and financial services;
  • Addresses the CYOD, or choose-your-own-device, strategy, in which employees are given several options for corporate-owned mobile devices;
  • Spells out how to pair a network access control system with an MDM system.

Gordon, CISSP-ISSMP, is a seasoned enterprise systems and information security industry executive having worked with the best and brightest innovators over the past 20 years. He is a vice president at ForeScout Technologies, the world's leading provider of network access control solutions. Gordon has advocated and contributed to the advancement of leading-edge products spanning NAC, event correlation, security information management, network and endpoint security, storage encryption and risk management.
