The Authentication Evolution

Vasco's Valcke on Using Digipass for Multiple Applications
On the technical side, authentication is much the same as it was years ago. But the way consumers are using two-factor authentication products has dramatically changed, says Vasco's Jan Valcke.

"In the early days, authentication [was used like] one Digipass for one application. Today, multiple applications have one Digipass, so that you as a consumer only need one for [everything]."

Valcke says that as the market evolves, products will be more user-friendly, and that consumers will be discarding passwords in favor of signing in with Bluetooth or a scan of their fingerprint.

In an interview at the Infosecurity Europe 2014 conference in London, Valcke discusses:

  • The evolution of authentication technology;
  • Innovative applications in the gaming industry;

Valcke took responsibility for the worldwide sales when Digiline/DIGIPASS was acquired in 1996 by VASCO. In 2000, he became VASCO's executive vice president, sales and marketing. At the end of 2002, Valcke become VASCO's President and COO.
