Ensuring the Security of Data Centers

Organizations and security professionals often assume that data centers are inherently more secure than other computing environments. Vulnerability researcher Jesse Chick busted this tacit assumption.

"Whether you're co-locating in some large data center out in the desert or hosting primarily on-premises, a lot of the devices in those environments tend to be the same and therefore have a lot of the same issues and vulnerabilities," Chick said.

As data centers play a critical role in the digital ecosystem, addressing these vulnerabilities is imperative for data center defenders. "Update, update, update. That's the advice that we give vendors, or rather administrators, ad nauseam," he said, "because, to a certain extent, that's really all you can do."
