Cybersecurity Expectations in 2021 in Malaysia

The year 2021 will see an increase in organized cybercrime activities, APT and ransomware attacks as enterprises in the Malaysian region go through a digital transformation journey and adopt the cloud strategy, says Dr. Amirudin Abdul Wahab, CEO-Cybersecurity, Government of Malaysia.

"With the increase in cybercrime, CISOs need to take a holistic approach to cybersecurity absorbing adaptive security trend to strengthen their predictive, preventive and detection and response capabilities using right technologies to identify the attack patterns," he says in a video interview with Information Security Media Group.

In this interview, he offers insights on:

  • Malaysia's new Cybersecurity Master Plan for 2020-24;
  • Using SASE and zero trust models to fight new threats;
  • Building predictive capabilities using artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics.

Wahab is currently the chief executive officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia, a strategic agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia. He has more than 20 years of ICT working experience in the telecom and IT sectors in the government and the semi-government and private sectors.

Dr. Wahab holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering (ITEE), University of Queensland, Australia.
