Building a Defense Strategy for Unknown, Unmapped Dark Web

Financial CISO Supro Ghose on How to Protect Valuable Company Data on the Dark Web

To build a defense strategy for valuable company data that winds up on the dark web, CISOs need to understand the dark web, know which company data could be on it and know the market value of that data, says Supro Ghose, senior vice president and CISO of a U.S.-based financial institution.

Ghose says the dark web is a marketplace where all the buyers, the sellers and the goods - which are the data - are unknown and unmapped. With no transparency and no standard search tools, he says, navigating the dark web is "manually intensive."

In an interview with Information Security Media Group, at ISMG's Cybersecurity Summit in Bengaluru, Ghose also discusses:

  • Fingerprinting data to make searching for it on the dark web easier;
  • Why it's preferable to work with a vendor to defend your data on the dark web;
  • How threat intelligence "helps you direct your strategy."

Ghose is senior VP and CISO at EagleBank. He is an information technology executive with over 30 years of information security and technology management experience. In the past, he held senior leadership roles at several financial services organizations, including FINRA, VISA, and Citibank.
