Zia Shah is the head of Information Security and Technology at KPMG in Canada. Zia joined KPMG in 2001 and has held a variety of senior management positions in Canada. In 2002, he was appointed Senior Principal at the firm and in 2008 became Executive Director of IT. In 2013, he was named Chief Information Security Officer and a Managing Director. In his current role, Zia leads the Technology team that formulates strategic IT plans to support the firm’s objectives, delivers business solutions and manages technology operations in Canada. He also leads the information security strategy, execution, governance and compliance. Zia came to KPMG from Maxlink Communications where he strategized, developed and delivered the Internet services portfolio for the startup company to market. Prior to that, he was co-founder and CEO of SHOA Telecommunications where he developed the vision, established the company and led its initial growth. Previously, Zia held a wide range of senior roles at IBM. Zia holds a master’s degree in Computer Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He also holds CISM and CRISC designations. He is a founding member of the CISO Executive Network in Toronto, co-founder of the CSO Summit at SecTor and a member of the Governing Body of the Toronto CISO Summit.
