2022 Cyberthreat Trends and the Need for New Cyber Education

Threats from API and application vulnerabilities increased in 2022, but ransomware, human error and hygiene continue to pose the greatest threats to organizations, according to findings from CyberTheory's 2022 Performance Study.

Findings from the study illustrate that the biggest obstacle to improving the state of cybersecurity is "people-related" issues, says Steve King, managing director of CyberTheory, Information Security Media Group's full-service cybersecurity marketing advisory firm.

For example, while "everybody loves the idea of zero trust," few organizations have actually implemented a successful program. That's because "people have a complete misunderstanding of what zero trust is and what its objectives are," says King, who also leads CyberEd.io.

To address cybersecurity education gaps, ISMG is soon to launch the CyberEd.io platform, which will provide cyber education and training globally at all levels - from entry-level applicants to midlevel professionals and senior practitioners and C-suite executives.

Up until now, online cybersecurity training and education has been "fragmented" and "missing the mark," King says.

"When we set out to design our e-learning platform, we wanted to create something that would be groundbreaking. Realizing that one of the great weaknesses of current e-learning programs is that they are self-directed, we decided to deliver ours through a managed services model, bound by SLAs," he says.
